Endurance
"Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us." - Hebrews 12:1
"You have need of endurance, so when you have done the will of God, you may receive what is promised." - Hebrews 10:36
The road we hoe is a long one, filled with snares, potholes, and stumbling stones. There are days when the sun beats down hard and we grow weary and the last thing we want to do is carry on.
The Hebrew writer was writing to those who were well acquainted with weariness. They had trudged a long way and seemed to have given up much for their cause. He encouraged them to have endurance. He doesn't just use the word "endurance", he told them how to gain it.
1. Have faith in God and his promises (Hebrews 11:6)
2. Consider those of faith that have gone before us and imitate their faith. (Hebrews 12:1 and 13:7)
3. Look to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2)
4. Lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees (Hebrews 12:12)
Let us not be those who shrink back and destroy our souls, but those who have faith and preserve our souls.
