A Godly Heart
“I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart”
- Psalm 40:8
When God told Samuel that he would appoint a new king that would be a man after God’s own heart, he appointed David. In a very real way, this is the purpose of being coming christian, to be made again into men and women after God’s own heart. We are to be transformed into the image of our Creator by the renewal of our minds and the cleansing of our hearts.
There are a number of elements that made David into a man after God’s own heart, but one that cannot be over looked is David’s love of God’s law. David wrote psalm after psalm extolling the virtue and wisdom of God’s law. In the longest chapter of the Bible, Psalm 119, David writes about God’s law in almost every line of the psalm.
Often people want to find God apart from the Bible (God’s law) or want to be close to God without believing and living by His word (law). This simply cannot be done. You cannot be a man or woman after God’s own heart without loving His law. You cannot be close to God without living by His word. You cannot find God without the Bible.
Be people after God’s own heart, “for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” (John 4:23)
