The Lord is Near
“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” - Psalm 34:18
When the apostles were in the boat, in the storm, on the Sea of Galilee, they began to panic and roused Jesus who was asleep. He chided them for being of little faith. Why? Because the Lord (Jesus himself) was at hand. When Peter was walking on the water, got distracted, and began to sink, Jesus again chided him for having little faith. Why? Because the Lord was near. Later in Matthew, when the apostles had crossed the sea without food and they begin discussing this amongst themselves, Jesus again corrects them by tell them that they are of little faith. Why? Because the Lord was with them.
The promise is made for us in James, that if we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. David assures us that the Lord is near us even when we are broken hearted. Paul reminds the Philippians who are longing for the peace of God, that the Lord is at hand. James, again reminds his readers to establish their hearts in adversity because the Lord is at hand.
If God is for us, who can be against us? If the angel of the Lord camps around those who fear the Lord, what need I fear? If God draws close to me as I draw close to Him, and He works all things together for good, why would I lack in faith? The Lord is near! Rejoice, and again I say, rejoice! Give Him your anxieties because He cares for you.
